Art in the Streets: an exhibition of the history of graffiti and street art

This is going to be such an exciting exhibition I don’t even know where to start! The Museum of Contemporary Art in New York announced an exhibition that will showcase the history of graffiti and street art. Here’s what MOCA says about the event:

“The exhibition will trace the development of graffiti and street art from the 1970s to the global movement it has become today, concentrating on key cities where a unique visual language or attitude has evolved.”

The exhibition will feature artists like Banksy, Fab 5 Freddy, Futura, Margaret Kilgallen, JR (my personal favorite), Mister Cartoon, and many more. Photographers and filmmakers such as Estevan Oriol, Martha Cooper, Spike Jonze and Terry Richardson will also be featured in the show.

And guess what? The opening will feature a skate demonstration by the Nike SB skate team. The skate ramp is designed by pro-skater Lance Mountain and artist Geoff McFetridge.

The exhibition will take place from April, 17th until August, 8th 2011. Must see if you’re in New York!
