Hip-Hop Beef: Lil Wayne/Drake vs. Jay-Z/Kanye West? (Part 2)

Here is the second part of the Lil Wayne & Drake vs. Jay-Z & Kanye West post. In case you did not get the opportunity to read Part I, you can read it HERE. Continuing from where I left off, I will now get into the second part of my claim. This is a newer emergence in contrast to Jay & Wayne’s situation. I will now discuss the roles that Wayne’s tag-team partner, Drake, and Jay’s tag-team partner, Kanye, play.

THE CASE

PART TWO: DRAKE vs. KANYE/JAY

Subject 1: Drake

Aubrey “Drake” Graham is a phenom. He has overtook the rap game in such a such a brief, whether for better or worse, he has already made his mark in the game. Drake, who is a member of Lil Wayne’s Young Money, is being crowned as the next generation’s “savior” by many individuals. Already rubbing elbows with the big dogs of rap, Drake is a very talented artist who is a dual threat in regards to being an MC as well as a singer. Drake has been thrown in the mess, not only because of his affiliations with Wayne, but with Jay & Ye as well.

In January 2011, Drake did interview on Tim Westwood TV, and hinted at Watch The Throne with these statements (around 2:23):

“I’ll be on [Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV] — we’ve done a great song…we’re going to do another one…and another one. We still got to do that [collaboration] album. I heard two other guys are coming out with an album together, too. There’s two other rappers [that] are coming out with an album together. I don’t know where they got that idea but — I caught wind of it through the grapevine that there’s some other album with two guys rapper on it. [laughs]“

After viewing that interview, imagine my surprise when I heard his verse on DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One” released in May 2011 (off Khaled’s We The Best Forever), which ended as such (around 1:00):

“Hate the rumours, hate the bulls**t, Hate these f**king allegations,
I’m just feeling like the throne is for the taking, Watch me take it”

Along with “I’m On One”, he raps on “Dreams Money Can Buy” (which may appear on his upcoming LP Take Care(around 2:35):

“My favorite rappers either lost it or they ain’t alive, And they tryna bring us down me, Weezy and Stunna…”

We obviously know that Wayne is one of Drake’s favorite artists, but one could safely assume that Jay and Ye are huge influences on Drake as well and that he is fans of theirs, so could they possibly be considered apart of his favorite rappers list?

Subject 2: Kanye West

Since much of Kanye West’s beef lies with television writers, ex-girlfriends, young pop icons, and pretty much the media in general, there isn’t much evidence on Ye except recently on “Otis” (off Watch The Throne), when he says (around 1:02):

“Damn Yeezy and Hov, where the hell ya been? Ni**as talking real reckless…stuntmen” (Stuntmen = Stunt Men? = Stunnas? = Signed to the #1 Stunna Baby?) (Ye also uses the “Young Money” rhyme style)

“I adopted these ni**as, Phillip Drummond them”/ (adpoted = fathered? = influenced?)
“Now I’m about to make them tuck their whole summer in”

As of now, that’s all I have on ‘Ye. While Jay & Wayne’s history goes back a little further, I do think there is something here even though there isn’t much, yet. Stay Tuned! Watch the Throne(s)…

CONCLUSION

I feel that a considerable amount of evidence has been laid out before for you for your analysis and judgment. Again, could I be reaching? Perchance. Much ado about nothing? Maybe. Could I be tripping? Perhaps. Am I possibly paranoid? It’s possible. Are you denial? Hmmm. But do remember, these claims could be true or they could be false; it’s all speculation. We will more than likely never know. Maybe I can talk to Vince McMahon and see about getting this on the bill next year at Wrestlemania XXVIII. But you are beholder, tell me, is it beautiful?

*SIDENOTE: As of the Week Ending 9/18/2011, “Watch The Throne” (released August 8, 2011) has sold 872K copies while “Tha Carter IV”(released August 29, 2011 [i.e. 3 weeks later]) has sold are 1.3 Mil copies (via Hip-Hop DX)

QUESTIONS

1. Which duo is better: Jay-Z & Kanye or Lil Wayne & Drake?

2. Which project do think will be better when it’s all said and done: Jay-Z & Kanye’s Watch The Throne or Wayne & Drake’s project?

3. What do you think Lil Wayne & Drake’s project will be called? Heirs To The Throne maybe?
