I don’t like being called a sneaker head. I don’t like being called anything other than my name honestly, but the term sneaker head is constricting in my opinion. To me it denotes an addiction or fanatically mentality that doesn’t really apply to me or the people I like to associate myself with. Now of course I get excited when a shoe I want or have wanted is slated to be released. But that’s just a byproduct of the culture I think. A sense of urgency along with the desire to have something are why you in the shoe game. But I’m not strung out. I collect, but if I miss a pair here or a pair there, no biggie. A Fiend is an evil malicious person. Synonymous with Addict, or demon, even devil. Someone who’s willing to do anything to obtain a feeling or object.
Lately you could add fiend to that list of descriptive terms. A recent surge of so called “sneaker related” crimes including murder have turned national news segments into World Star Hip Hop. Part of the reasons I like some sneakers so much as an adult is because as a child I wasn’t allowed to wear them. Not only because they were expensive, but children were being jumped & killed for what was on they’re feet. Sad to say, not much has changed. From the smash & grab jobs at local shoe store chains for cool grey 11s last year. To the all out madness that took center stage for Concords this year. Sneaker associated violence is becoming more common than not. To be in this game it takes two things. Time & money. That’s it! Crime is slowly becoming a third party to this lifestyle. The popularity of a form of expression is once again pushing people to act irrationally. This isn’t the 90′s anymore. Let’s focus on being forward thinkers. Because at the end of the day its just rubber & leather. Feel free to share your comments below.

Great post, I was a serious sneaker head in high school but the whole scene got to be too much. Even though I wouldn’t pair the sneaker game with violence necessarily, people were also getting jumped for their Starter jackets back in the day, ya know?. Regardless, now that I’m trying to get BACK into the shoe game it almost seems impossible without breaking some serious bread and I actually WEAR my shoes, I don’t collect shit. It’s a different game.
interesting and good read, i agree crazy i read this the day the news claim a dude was killed over some rookies
