AGS: To start off one of the things that set you apart from many artists is your versatility. Your ability to rap, sing, and produce records with quality in all aspects is impressive. Musically can you tell our readers your back story on deciding to pursue music?
ForteBowie: Well, I’ve never wanted to do anything else. I never wanted to be a doctor or firefighter. I always wanted to be an entertainer. I just grew up listening to everything which just prepared me for what I’m doing now.
AGS: The “Something about Bowie” project was a solid body of work, having put out material beforehand what was your thought process going into that tape?
ForteBowie: I always feel like there’s so much I forgot to say or touch on when it comes to my previous work. So I just basically said all things I wanted to and just spoke on things that were relevant to me at the time, which is what I always do.
AGS: One of my favorite records is the “College” joint off of “Something about Bowie”. How did that record come about?
ForteBowie: When I came up with that record I had already experienced 2 failed semesters. I was just frustrated and was tired of just flunking out. So instead of getting my mind right and trying again, I just wrote a song about how much I hate school. I think everyone should attempt college but it definitely isn’t for us all.
AGS: Seeing that at some point school was something that was a major focus. What are some of the difficulties of wanting to pursue music while also focusing on an education?
ForteBowie: It can be done. It’s just hard for someone like me. I have music running through my head 24/7. So it’s kind of hard to keep me in one place mentally and physically. I’m all over the place. I just couldn’t get my focus on those books. If I used the same energy I used with music, I’d be fine. I just couldn’t do it.
AGS: In hearing your feature on Trinidad James “Don’t Be S.A.F.E” tape, how did you all get together for that particular record?
ForteBowie: Well I’ve known him for a while. He’s just a humble guy. And I rock with people like that. I can’t stand politics and he’s the same way. So I just pulled up on him and played him the beat with my verse on it. He loved it. It was crazy because he had to turn in the tape that day if I’m not mistaken. But he pushed it back so it was a blessing.
AGS: I am really enjoying a lot of the newer artist coming out of Atlanta; can you speak on this innovative refreshing musical sound coming out of the A?
ForteBowie: It’s a lot of people out of here really expressing themselves in their own way. Those are the artist that will win. Not the followers and fakes. I’m really proud to be from this city right now
AGS: Tell us a bit about your upcoming project Passion & Confusion?
ForteBowie: This project is my life. Everything I’ve been dealing with, going through and thinking of for the past 3 years. I feel like I got it right this time around. I feel like this piece of work will be the one that people can really relate to.
AGS: The record “Check” is something that resonates I think with us all. Let me ask, upon getting that first meaningful check share with us a few things you would do with that boost in finances?
ForteBowie: I would definitely take care of my mom. Get all of my debts out of the way. Loans and all of that. Get a crib and just chill and save the rest and flip some of it. Gotta be smart out here.
AGS: Five, Six, Seven years from now when you look back on this time, where would you like to be career wise?
ForteBowie: I wanna be the best. Period. I want the world to recognize the talents and the entertainer I know I am. I just have to prove myself.
AGS: Thanks for taking this time to chat with the AGS readers, if someone would like to get connected with you for beats, verses, hooks, or general inquires how would they go about doing so?
